Fund recipient Aisling Walsh travelled to Guatemala to examine maternal mortality rates, which are among the highest in Latin America. She reports on how women are being pushed to the margins of society in Guatemala, where violence and discrimination are routine. With many women dying in childbirth from largely preventable causes, she looks at some of the potential solutions to the crisis. Aisling’s work was published by both the Sunday Business Post (an online version can be accessed here), and The Irish Times (click here to read the online version). A gallery of photography from Aisling’s project can also be viewed here.
