In 2010, Louise Williams and Ronald de Hommel travelled to Haiti under the Simon Cumbers Media Fund to document Haiti’s agriculture industry and the people who are affected by it. Since 1994, heavily subsidised American rice has flooded the Haitian market, undercutting Haitian farmers and halting production of rice locally. Haiti is now the biggest importer of rice in the world. Louise and Ronald’s project resulted in an article in the Irish Times on 23rd October 2010 and a slideshow on the website. Louise also featured on the Today with Pat Kenny show, RT 1 on 27th November 2010 to highlight Haiti’s farmers. You can listen to the interview here.
