Winter 2018 Fund recipient Richard Chambers was supported to travel to South Africa, where he examined the continuing impact of apartheid 25 years on from Nelson Mandela’s inauguration as South African President in 1994, and how community groups and Irish organisations are working to improve lives today.
Richard explored the legacy of apartheid along several lines and his project was broadcast as part of a four-part series on Virgin Media News. The first report, concerned with the issue of poverty and inequality can be viewed here. The second report, focusing on violence, including gender-based violence can be accessed here. The third report, centred on the issue of land reform and can be watched back here. Richard’s fourth report looked ahead to this year’s election and can be viewed here. A final report spoke with Irish emigrants to South Africa and is accessible here.
