Fund recipient Kait Bolongaro travelled to Paraguay, to examine how pre-eclampsia has been the number one cause of maternal deaths there since 2017.
Heralded by the World Bank for its impressive economic growth, Paraguay’s economy has grown faster than most of its neighbours in Latin America since 2004. However, its healthcare system has struggled to reduce the number of pregnant women and infants who die each year. Kait’s article explores some of the initiatives and solutions in place to help save lives.
Kait’s work was published in The Irish Times. Click here to read an online version. A gallery of photography from Kait’s project can also be viewed here.
