Fund recipient Sorcha Pollak travelled to Peru to examine the social, political and economic implications of the arrival of nearly a million Venezuelan refugees, in what is the world’s second largest displacement emergency after Syria. She explores what life is like for Venezuelan migrants living in Peru, how they fled poverty, hunger and political turmoil in Venezuela, and the difficulties they now face in Peru, including barriers to settlement and rising xenophobia. Sorcha’s work was published in three articles in The Irish Times, click here; here; and here, to read online versions. A gallery from Sorcha’s project can also be viewed here.
