Fund recipient Sorcha Pollak was funded to travel to Kerala, India, where she examined the reasons behind nurses leaving this region in southern India. It is held up as one of the best areas in the country in terms of opportunity and education, but violence against women is still a huge problem. This article will look at the migratory patters in the region, the reasons that so many select Ireland and the impact that it is having on Kerala. Sorcha’s work was published by The Irish Times, in print and online. A gallery of imagery from Sorcha’s project can be found here.
