Fund recipient Niall Sargent travelled to the West Bank, and the refugee camp of Balata, to examine how American funding cuts have impacted life for the 30,000 people who occupy the densely populated camp. He explores how problems with high unemployment rates, low incomes, poor infrastructure, and overburdened health clinics have intensified since American funding was cut; and how education and youth services are on the brink, as young people face a life cycle of poverty and violence. Niall’s work was published in two articles by The Irish Times; click here, and here, to read online versions. A gallery of photography from Niall’s project can also be viewed here.
