The Simon Cumbers Media Fund was established by Irish Aid in 2005 in memory of Irish journalist Simon Cumbers who was killed while on assignment in Saudi Arabia the previous year. The Fund enables journalists to report on stories of contemporary life in developing countries that would otherwise not be told to an Irish audience. In doing so, it highlights the development work being done by NGOs and in projects funded by the Irish taxpayer, and how they benefit these communities.
Journalists and media professionals have the opportunity to apply for funding twice a year – in the summer, and in the winter. The Fund also supports a student round each year.
The Simon Cumbers Media Fund is an initiative of Irish Aid.
